China: Price of Taian garlic continues to drop

As the weather gets warmer, new garlic is slowly entering the market. However, the price drop is clear: in the last 11 days the average price of Taishan garlic has dropped to 4 yuan/500g. This is a drop of 55% compared to 9 yuan/500g in March, and a 33,3% drop compared to last year's 6 yuan/500g. The garlic plantation surface has doubled, and it is starting to become clear that several areas are holding back their produce to gain market share. As new garlic keeps entering the market, sellers will focus on getting rid of stock from their refrigerated storage, which will largely increase the market supply. It is estimated that the garlic price will drop even lower from now on.
