Fruttinfiore - Lagnasco is the capital of Piedmont fruit cultivation

Fruttinfiore, the event dedicated to the best local fruit in Piedmont, took place between 7th and 9th April in Lagnasco (Cuneo). It included both STAO - Salone delle Tecnologie Applicate all'Ortofrutticoltura (Salon for the technology applied to agriculture) and the Market Fair, where professionals and consumers could discover what's new and meet producers. Once again, FreshPlaza dedicated a photo gallery to this fair, which every year attracts over 40,000 visitors from all over Piedmont.

The event was organised by the Pro Loco, Municipality, APOs and category associations with the support of the Ministry, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Cuneo, Cuneo Chamber of Commerce, Cassa di Risparmio di Saluzzo and Foundation and private sponsors.

MP Mino Taricco, MEP Alberto Cirio, deputy minister Andrea Olivero, mayor Ernesto Testa, pro-loco representatives, Piemonte Asprofrut president Domenico Sacchetto and Ortofruit Italia president Domenico Paschetta attended the inauguration on 7th April. Minister Enrico Costa cut the ribbon.

After the inauguration and a tour of the stands, the Fruttinfiore award ceremony was held in the Asprofru convention hall. The award was granted to all Lagnasco octogenarians working in agriculture and, in particular, to Giovanni Cicotero.

"The event went well. We wanted to reward all octogenarians because they are the ones who developed fruit cultivation in the Lagnasco area and taught the younger generations how to love our land and fruit," explained Domenico Sacchetto.

"Our technologies and the quality of our products are exceptional and we owe it to these people, who taught us to respect our land and fruit. We need to stress that, up until 40 years ago, 15 lorries delivered our fruit to processing and packaging warehouses in Emilia-Romagna and Verona every day. Nowadays, we can process and package our produce here, which is positive. We used to depend on the others, while now almost half of Italian kiwis are processed in Piedmont. This in turns means profits are higher and there are more jobs for the locals."
