On 2 April, a 380-meter long "banana runway" covered by tons of bananas appeared in the Jinsui Eco Park, Nanning - the biggest banana production base in China. Visitors celebrated the holiday of the 3 March in the lunar calendar by enjoying themselves in activities including a crazy banana race, a banana throwing contest and "banana fishing".
The first Liaoguai Festival, known as the "Crazy Banana Event", took place on the same day. This amazing show has sculptures made of bananas, singing and dancing performances, and the "Liaoguai Folk Singing Contest", which attracted many visitors from around the city.
According to the organizer of the event, Nanning is the one of the major banana production areas in China, with its total planted area, production and value, ranking the first among all the prefectural cities in the country. With the help and support from the municipal government, the scale of the banana industry here has been rising steadily by over 12% annually over past few years. The activities with the banana theme during the celebration of the 3 March in the lunar calendar were aimed to promote the "crazy banana" culture of Nanning and bring more joy to the local people during the public holiday as well.
