Tour of Los Angeles port operations for Ag students from Fresno

This past Saturday, March 25, J&K Fresh sponsored a tour of the Los Angeles-Long Beach Seaport for a group of students from California State University, Fresno. The students are majoring in agriculture with a desire to learn about all aspects of the produce industry. The students had an opportunity to see the port operations up close and personal, learning about sailing times, refrigerated containers, and automated terminals. Marcel van Dijk, Cargo Marketing Manager, for the Port of Los Angeles narrated the tour.

The tour was followed by lunch, where Lynnette Keffer, Chief Executive Officer of J&K Fresh, explained the import process for produce and how a Customs Broker like J&K Fresh facilitates the clearance through US Customs and Border Protection, Food and Drug, including food safety, and Agriculture Quarantine.

“It was a great day,” says Keffer. “These students are the produce industry’s future. They are educated, ambitious, and enthusiastic. The industry is in good hands.”
