Canadian TOV grower has expanded into the US

Demand for tomatoes on the vine (TOV) is steadily picking up. “It’s nice as we are now starting our local production,” says Jimmy Coppola with Westmoreland-TopLine Farms. The market for TOVs is a bit lower this time of the year compared to the same time last year. “The market does fluctuate from one year to the next and in general, it is following a trend that’s pretty similar to years past.”

Harvest April - December
The company’s local Ontario production starts in April and goes until December. “In addition to our headquarters location in Leamington, Canada, we started growing TOV’s in the US for the first time last year,” mentioned Coppola. The window of availability is similar to local Canadian production. “It was a great first year and our goal is to continue to grow our offerings in different growing regions.”

The expansion into the US was driven by a strong movement towards locally grown produce. “We collaborate with our partners and help them offer locally grown product to their customers,” said Coppola. The USA-grown TOVs are primarily distributed on the East Coast.
