Mexico: Michoacan exports nearly 52,000 tons of mango

The mango, like the avocado, is a Mexican product that is becoming more and more important for the agricultural food sector; as a result, many different nations, 27 in total, purchase it to consume it on a daily basis, stated the Secretariat of agriculture, livestock, Rural Development, fishing and food (SAGARPA).

Jaime Rodriguez Lopez, delegate of SAGARPA in Michoacan, said that 27 nations consumed Mexican mango, including countries like: the United States, Canada, Russia, Australia, Norway, Spain, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. He also said that Michoacan exported 51,977 tons of mangoes per year, which ranked this fruit as the state's second biggest export product in terms of volume.

The United States is the largest consumer of Michoacan mango, as the state ships slightly more than 42 thousand tons to this country. The US is followed by Canada with more than six thousand tons, Japan with two thousand tons, Spain with 518 tons, and finally 13 other Nations to which Michoacan exports 900 tons of mango.

The delegate said that the mango had become more relevant throughout the country, so Michoacan would be contributing to a boost in production and the expansion the international market. He stressed that they would work hard to produce more mango and other products, such as lemon, melon, and grapefruit so that more countries could become more familiar with the state's production.

Previously, SAGARPA's delegation in Michoacan spoke about the approaches with different countries interested in buying State products, notably mango, which is backed by its quality and health. The Secretariat has been approached by Arab nations, Asian nations and South American countries that want to import food from this entity.

Jaime Rodríguez Lopez also said his unit was going to continue working so that more countries became interested in importing the State's production, which represent a new support for the men in the field and will help Michoacan continue to be the leading producer at the national level.
