Mexico: Lemon market prices and margins

During the month of February the tracking of the Mexican lemon prices in producing areas, wholesale and consumer prices in major cities, and marketing margins of Colima's citrus in three selected cities (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and La Paz, Baja California South), recorded the following quotes:

Prices paid to producers ($/ kg)
During the month of February the highest price paid to producers in the field, 19.65 $/ kg, in the country's major lemon producers in the country was observed in the region of Tecoman, Colima, while the lowest price, 8.50 $/ kg, was observed in the State of Oaxaca. (SIPROLIMEX-COLIMA)

Wholesale prices ($/kg)
Figure 1 depicts that the highest average monthly retail price, 23.58 $/ kg, was located in the Felipe Angeles Market in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and the lowest price, 13.28 $/ kg, in the Central de Abasto de Leon,Guanajuato. (SNIIM)

Retail prices for consumers ($/kg)
The highest average monthly retail price for consumers was recorded in the supermarket chains and traditional shops located in the city of La Paz, Baja California South, and amounted to 31.08 $/ kg, while the lowest price was detected in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco: 25.97 $/ kg. (INEGI)

Trading margins (%)
The highest marketing margin, 113%, was recorded in the Union de Comerciantes La Paz market, Baja California South, while the lowest margin, 78%, was located in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The highest marketing margin amounted to a 16.47 $/ kg difference between the price paid to producers in the citrus region of Tecoman, Colima, 14.61 $/ kg, and the average monthly selling price to the consumer in the Union de Comerciantes La Paz market, in Baja California South, 31.08 $/ kg.

The lowest marketing margin recorded a 11.16 $/ kg difference between the monthly average price paid to producers in the citrus region of Tecoman, 14.61 $/ kg, and the lowest average monthly selling price for consumer, which was identified in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, 25.97 $ /kg.

Production volumes (in tons)
According to data from SIPROLIMEX-Colima, the main producing states produced a total of 24,315 tons in February. Michoacan accounted for 80% of the production, while Colima accounted for 17%, Guerrero for 2%, and Oaxaca 1%.
