India: Fruit market trade (week 11)

IG International shares a short update on India's fruit market this week. IG is one of the leading names in fresh fruits imports and exports in the country.

Apples
Varieties topping the charts of the Indian market are the Fuji apples from China, Reds from Washington, Galas and Red delicious from Italy, plus Red Prince from Belgium and the Netherlands. All varieties are in high demand but Italian apples take the lead. Belgian Apples are not far behind, due to their competitive price.

Kiwis
Kiwis are being sourced from Greece currently. Demand for kiwis is tremendously increasing. It was previously reported by IG that for kiwis, the pre-pack provides extra value and it also gives an added opportunity to offer something different and to establish a brand.

Grapes
Grapes are currently being sourced from Peru and South Africa but the demand is slow as the Indian grapes season is on. Nevertheless, IG is exporting grapes this season for the first time under the label of IG grapes. Russia is one of the main markets.

Oranges
Egyptian citrus is selling well. Demand is high as the price is compatible. Valencia oranges are available though Indian consumers prefer sweet oranges.

Pears
Packham is the most loved pear variety in India. Currently being imported from South Africa, it is high in price but the good quality leaves all the other pear varieties behind.
