China: First batch of onion exports goes through Raohe trading post
On the 2nd of March, the first batch of exported onions, destined for Russia, smoothly cleared the customs at the Raohe trading post. This batch is the first that the local cooperative of vegetable plantations has exported through Raohe county (Heilongjiang province).
In 2015 Raohe's commercial department attracted the international trade company Sasa, from Daqing city (Heilongjiang), to settle in Raohe county and convinced them to establish the specialized co-op in order to develop exports of onions to Russia. In 2016, Sasa ran trials on the hundred hectares of plantation, and the result has been a bumper harvest, grown according the standards for organic food, as stipulated by the European Union. They also came to an agreement with Russia concerning the export of onions. The demand for onions in Russia is huge, so there is a lot of market potential.
