"Stable mango supply from Brazil"

The demand for mangoes traditionally increases in this period as a result of the low supply of European fruit. "I certainly expect the market to remain strong until the end of April, with prices starting from 7 Euro, and perhaps higher for the regular mangoes," explains Carlos Andre Faria, of Sun City in Bleiswijk. He expects a decreasing volume from Peru over the next few weeks and a stable supply from Brazil of around 80 containers, 50% of which are of the fibreless varieties.

“Peru is now shipping around 150 containers, but the quality is lower than last month’s; that is why some companies currently prefer other origins. Brazil is currently shipping 80 containers per week, 25% of which are Palmer, 50% Tommy Atkins and 25% Keith. 50% of these are fibreless and the other 50% Tommy Atkins for the UK and Europe. This volume will remain relatively stable.”
