"Spain: "Lemon prices are expected to increase in the coming weeks"

The stocks of the Primofiori variety are running out, so it is almost time to prepare for the next variety, the Verna. This is, at least, is what they say at Frutas Juanito, where they have already started harvesting - a little earlier than usual this year. The change of variety should be reflected in a price increase, but this is something that the markets won't face until Primofiori lemons are completely sold out.

"Although last year it was more expensive, this year the price is still high," explains Juanjo Cárcel, foreign trade manager at Frutas Juanito. In terms of production, they are starting the campaign with a 15% increase compared to last season, which is "not substantial" according to Juanjo Cárcel. However, despite this small increase, the quality has suffered a bit due to the bad weather recorded in the months of December and January. "In any case, the quality of Spanish lemons is good and we meet the demands of our customers in the best possible manner," Juanjo adds.

It is precisely over the last 3 or 4 years that this Murcia-based company has increased its export volume, shipping to destinations like Canada, China, the Arab Countries, Malaysia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil, among others. In Europe, exports go to Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, England, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Ukraine, etc. "It could be said that our international sales have grown by between 50 and 60% in recent years, thus helping our Juanito brand expand," he concludes.
