National Stonefruit Congress to offer advice on Chinese market

The second edition of the National Stonefruit Congress will be held from 9 to 10 March in Murcia and Cieza. Two of the most noteworthy parts of its technical program will be the First Spanish-Chinese Agricultural Forum and a presentation from the general director of Agricultural Production of the Ministry of Agriculture on the "Current Regulatory Framework for Phytosanitaries in Spain: Sustainable Use and Challenges for the Future."

Also worth noting is the inaugural conference on the opportunities in almond cultivation for Spanish fruit growers. This will be presented by researcher Federico Dicenta, of Cebas-Csic. There will also be a talk on emerging diseases in fruit orchards, by Francisco González, head of the region's Plant Health Service.

The event expects to welcome about 600 professionals from the sector, who will attend the two coffee and cocktail networking meetings.

On the second day, on Friday, 10 March, to be held at the Capitol Theatre of Cieza, there will be a presentation on "The peach of Cieza and its characteristics for the Protected Geographical Indication (IPG)", by Francisco Artés, of UPCT, and another one on "The Future of Agricultural Markets: Threats and Challenges", by Mari Carmen Morales, Director of Quality and Systems at Anecoop. Also, the book "Peaches in the History of Cieza" will be presented, which is the first historical study of this product and will be attached to the file for the PGI.

Advice for the Chinese market
The event will also serve to clarify any doubts of Spanish exporters willing to explore the Chinese market, following the approval of the protocol that made it possible to ship peaches and plums to the Asian giant. Experts from leading companies in the sector will participate in a round table, including Kiwa (for the certification of farms), DHL or Anserlog (for logistics solutions), China In Crowd (a Chinese market analyst) or Frutas Esther, as a pioneer in exporting. This round table will be moderated by the director of FruitToday magazine, Carmen Cabra.

This 1st Spanish-Chinese Agricultural Forum, which will have its first day in Murcia, will also be organised in the coming months in other cities, such as Seville or Valencia.
