Pure, raw water coconuts that open easily in seconds

Ready-to-drink coconut water is gaining traction

A year and half ago, NuCoco was established. “We offer pure coconut water from water coconuts,” says Michael Brown, co-owner and CEO of NuCoco. “It’s a very fresh product that does not involve any processing. After the coconut is picked, the husk is taken off, the product is wrapped and a straw is added.” NuCoco is the only supplier of fresh water coconuts sold in North America that open in seconds with its 4-step process using a straw; no machete, no butcher knife, no icepick required. See 'how to' video below.

In stores 10-11 days after harvest
The company partners with growers and co-packers in Southern Mexico and Belize. As soon as the product has been finished, it is trucked into Texas from Southern Mexico. Coconuts from Belize arrive into Miami by sea.

“What is unique about our product is that our coconut water is the freshest and purest, unprocessed coconut water sold in America. The product reaches the stores within 10-11 days after harvest. In addition to being a delicious health drink, the nut can be cracked open afterwards to enjoy nutritious and tender coconut pulp. “You get a drink and snack in the same pack,” said Brown. NuCoco water and pulp can be used in smoothies, cocktails, salads, soups and desserts. It’s a specialty product that comes in two sizes. Small water coconuts that contain about 350 ml. of water and large water coconuts that carry about 500 ml. of water. The retail price ranges from $2.99-$3.29 for the small nut and $3.49-$4.29 for the larger alternative.

High in electrolytes and low in sugars
According to Brown, demand for the convenient coconut-product is particularly driven by professional females. They have a high desire to live healthy. “In general, people who are health and fitness-conscious love our product, because it is high in electrolytes and contains naturally low sugar levels.” NuCoco’s water coconut is very popular with ethnic groups from the Caribbean, South Pacific, Asia and Latin America because of its authentic flavor and ease of using in cultural recipes. NuCoco is popular with mothers comforted by the knowledge they are giving their children a safe and healthy drink high in essential minerals, low in sugar and fun to drink.

“Demand is developing at a rapid pace,” shared Brown. “Because it is growing so fast, we’ve been challenged with supplies.” In response, NuCoco made a major partnership with TexBel, a US agricultural investment group which recently established a 3,000-acre coconut plantation in Belize. The partnership also works and supports small farmers in Belize and will start exports with NuCoco sales to North America. TexBel will come on line with additional coconut and citrus products in 2017 ready for export. At this point in time, NuCoco’s ready-to-drink coconuts are available year-round at retail stores in the Midwest and Florida, but the company is looking to expand nationwide across the US this spring and summer, including sales into foodservice and potentially cruise ships.
