First container of Peruvian mangoes sold at the port

Yesterday afternoon, the first container of Peruvian mangoes arrived in China. Upon arrival the container was opened by the Shanghai Huizhan fruit market and sold at the port.

Reports indicate that the container was imported by the Grand Distant Food corporation from Shanghai. As the container had been a month at sea and, because all mangoes possess their own characteristics of ripeness and need to undergo hot treatment, the container has only now reached the requirements of the Chinese Inspection and Quarantine Office. Although the costs of sea transport are somewhat lower than air transport, importing mangoes by sea is still rather challenging in terms of protecting their quality.

The selling of mangoes from the opened container attracted widespread attention. The quality of the mangoes was good and without any issues. But, compared to mangoes imported by air, the ripeness of a majority of the mangoes was rather disapointing. A further stage needs to be added to the selling process to promote their ripening in order to provide a better taste for the consumers.
