Burma to increase melon exports to China

According to Naiwen Wu, chairman of the Burmese watermelon and muskmelon planting, production and sales association, Burma exported to China 570,000 tons of watermelon and muskmelon in the last fiscal year. Plans for this fiscal year (2016-2017) are to increase that to 700,000 tons. Wu said that from November 2016 to January 2017, Burmese watermelon and muskmelon have been selling well in the Chinese market, yet neither the sales nor the prices were ideal in early February. However, prices have begun to rise recently - watermelon can now be sold for 3200 yuan per ton and muskmelon is at 7000 yuan per ton.
