Swiss data logger company launches data-flow system

Started two years ago, as a cooperation between Escort Cold Chain Solutions and Viemme, a manufacturer of electronic devices, Switrace was born. The company has developed temperature monitoring Data Loggers which are produced entirely in Switzerland.

Covering the perishable sector, the loggers are a USB format, but Patrick Poulet from Switrace said that they could also be described as a cloud logger, since you can send the data to the web once you connect it to the computer.

"Our monitoring device makes it possible for the exporter to just forget about it so he can take care of his fruit and we will take care of the technology. All the exporter has to do is push a button and the device takes over from there. There is also an option for an exporter to set alarms to notify them if something goes wrong, but most choose not to go for the option. For the receiver, just connect it to a computer and it will create automatic temperature reports without the need of any software.

Patrick Poulet, together with Egyptian country manager Eslam Mohamed Nageeb, from Switrace.

There are two ways to receive the information on arrival - the report can either be printed out or sent by email, but it is also possible to download free smart software where the client can read the logger results and send the information to the cloud with the touch of a button. Saving the information to the cloud serves a lot of purposes, the information is accessible at all times since it is possible to access the data on any electronic device, it makes sharing information easy and is convenient for audits.

During Fruit Logistica the company launched a data-flow system to track and trace the device online, which is more sophisticated because users are able to extract data and add logistic as well as temperature information. After the device has been connected, the information is then entered into a database so that the user can analyse the data in a way which is useful for the customer.

"Every logger represents an individual trip and the customer is able to enter the shipping information, where the product was produced, etc. Once the user has loggers from multiple shipments, they are able to analyse all of the information together, giving them the opportunity to pinpoint where some of the issues might be, which can be very helpful in prevention of damage or losses. We designed the software ourselves, so it can easily be adapted to suit each consumer."
