"Spain: "The key for us is buying directly from the grower"

This year has been somewhat atypical due to the bad weather and the high demand for vegetables across Europe. "These two factors have caused the price of the goods to go up quite a bit, although it is now going down," states Juan Giraldo, manager of Al-Andalus Fructus. This company works with the policy of buying directly from the grower; in this way, they are a little more in control of prices. Moreover, one of its next goals includes the opening of a large warehouse to sort and pack the products. Most of the process would then be in the hands of the company itself, making it able to offer a more competitive price.

At the moment, Al-Andalus Frucus, a young company but with very experienced staff, focuses on the export of aubergines, which it buys from trusted producers, to markets such as France. "We take advantage of the fact that we have customers buying citrus, one of our strongest products, to offer them this new range." In this way, they are gradually gaining market share, and at the moment, they are in negotiations with companies from the Netherlands and China.
