China: First star fruit shipment to the Netherlands

Recently, the Chineze Zhangzhou inspection and Quarantine Bureau received a batch of star fruit for inspection, weighing 300 kilograms and worth $600.

This shipment will be send to the Netherlands by air, making it the first of its kind. If the shipment is received positively this might pave the road for future export.

The Zhangzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau is positive about the development. "Zhangzhou is a province of agriculture and fishery," says one of the inspectors. "The growers work together with the exporters, making it possible to load the fruits in less than a week from the time it is harvested. We support the traders to meet European import regulations and quality control. In addition, we are responsible for the last checks before the products are loaded. We try to conduct all quarantine checks in less than 24 hours to ensure the fruit is as fresh as possible when it is shipped out."
