China: Apple prices fall 20 to 25%

"In recent years, with the growing acreage, China's apple production has increased year by year. But overall, there has been a lack of standardized management, and there is no guarantee of quality, which has affected consumer confidence as well as prices. This year the acreage has increased by about 60% but the price dropped by 20 to 25%," said Mr.Gou, a fruit grower and distributor.

" In Xianyang city, Shanxi province, we plant late-maturing, red Fuji apples, peaches, grapes and other fruits. In 2015, the apples were mainly sold through the Internet to wholesale markets across the country: to Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing and other cities. In 2016, due to the changeable climate in Shanxi province, sales were passable. At present, we still have many cold storage stocks of apples".

"In order to achieve our goal of providing customers with operation systems, from planting, production and sales to international trade, we have implemented a customer order service tailored to individual client preferences. To complete the green production process, we do not use any herbicides or other chemical agents. Looking ahead to 2017, I personally believe that the performance of the fruit market will be relatively stable and trading volumes will be similar to 2016."
