Peru looks back on a successful Fruit Logistica 2017

Peru’s successful participation at Fruit Logistica Berlin has come to an end. At the heart of its exhibition was the presentation of its new brand “Superfoods Peru.” At this stage Peru has already been able to close deals with a value of more than 200 million US Dollars for the current year, a growth of 20% compared to last year.

The trade fair in Berlin brought together 3,100 exhibitors from 86 countries and 70,000 visitors from over 130 nations. Some 8,600 buyers visited the Peru stand in the first two days of the fair, with the most highly sought-after products being pomegranates, blueberries and avocados. The figures reflect the current breakneck pace of growth in superfood sales. Peru’s new brand is a response to this consumer trend.

The new brand marks the start of a comprehensive campaign to position these healthy foods from Peru in international markets, and according to Minister Ferreyros, it will be the basis for more than 40 promotional activities in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. The brand ambassador in Germany is Werder Bremen star player, Claudio Pizarro, who greeted fans at the Peru stand. Pizarro says that superfoods comprise a significant portion of his diet and are responsible for his excellent physical condition.

The “Superfoods Peru” brand
There are already 150 Peruvian producers working under the “Superfoods Peru” brand. Minister Ferreyros estimates that export volumes for superfoods will triple to USD 15 billion in the medium term as a result of the campaign. He is also expecting to see up to 15% annual growth in cropland dedicated to superfoods.

Peru at Fruit Logistica
Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Christian Schmidt, Secretary of State, Rainer Bomba and Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin, paid a visit to Peru as part of their tour of Fruit Logistica.

With the help of live programming, Peru drew numerous visitors to its stand. Highlights there included the appearance of Claudio Pizarro, live cooking sessions by young star chefs Palmiro Ocampo and Arlette Eulert, and a Quechua-language hip-hop performance by Liberato Kani.

As of Wednesday, February 15th, Peru will showcase the “Superfoods Peru” brand at Biofach Nuremberg, one of the world’s leading fairs for organic food.
