China: Rapid growth of imported fruit in Nanjing

The port of Nanjing has not imported fruits for many years since the long transit time is not conducive to their preservation. Since 2015, importers have tried to import fruit by air. In January last year, the first Australian cherries arrived in Nanjing by air, followed by Philippine mangoes which arrived in December. In 2016, air fruit imports experienced a rapid growth with total imports of 9 batches, weighing 13791 kg, an increase of 299% compared with the same period last year. The imported varieties include Australian cherries, Philippine mangoes, Taiwan pineapples, mangoes, pitaya and others.
