Irish multinational under Japanese control

EU greenlights Fyffes takeover

The European Commission has no objection to the acquisition of Fyffes by Japan's Sumitomo. A major hurdle has thus been overcome on the way to finalising the deal. The Irish banana giant was taken over by the Irish Swordus Ireland Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Sumitomo. With the consent of the European Union there are no more competition clearances required, according to a press release from the company. The Japanese company has paid 751 million Euro for Fyffes.
