Tegut organic supermarket: Major revenue of organic products

In 2016 the German organic supermarket Tegut generated about 247 million Euros with 3,000 organic products. The company reported that the increase of 25.3% is more than a quarter of the total revenue. The company almost reached the billion Euro revenue mark. The total revenue was 996 million Euros and increased with 1.5% compared to the previous year (2015: 980.9 million Euros).

This success was achieved by the 122 supermarkets (offering the full-range, about 23,000 items), 120 local suppliers (about 7,500 articles) and the 30 Tegut corner shops (about 4,500 articles). According to the company the number of shops stayed almost the same with 272 (minus one). Last year eleven supermarkets were “revamped,” after which the turnover in these stores increased by an average of 10%.

For 2017 the company announced plans for ten new stores, for instance in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Fürth, Kelsterbach and Weimar. Since the summer Tegut has been labeling all their regional products in the stores, based on the criteria of “Regionalfenster”. The customers can recognize these products by the label “From the Region.”

Tegut currently employs 5,780 people and the company is building a new logistics center in the centrally located German town of Hunfeld, which should be ready in 2020. The new logistics center should secure "future-oriented logistics with a possibility to enable the desired expansion" stated the trade branch of the company.
