Iceberg lettuce or red wine attacked?

"A picture is worth a thousand words" is a familiar expression, but it can go wrong, according to a recently published article in Spanish media. In the picture, iceberg lettuce is tossed from a truck. At the top of the still image, a box is flying through the air. On Facebook, the message quickly became a hit, but those who followed the link found that the issue had hardly anything to do with fruits and vegetables, let alone iceberg lettuce.

According to the article, trucks with Spanish wine were attacked last week on the border with France. The report mentions a truck driver who was approached by members of a French CAV action committee. The cargo of 25,400 litres of red wine was destroyed. The driver filed a complaint with the French authorities and also alerted the Spanish Government. It would not be the first time that trucks with wine have been attacked.

The only link with fruits and vegetables is a warning from the Spanish authorities. Since the attacks have taken place early in the export season, it is feared that the French rage will also target fruits and vegetables. In the past, Spanish lorries loaded with fruits and vegetables have indeed been attacked, but at present there is report of this.
