ARCO building weighing lines for Canadian mushroom giant
The Canadian mushroom giant, Greenwood Mushroom Farm, will soon expand its production facilities. ARCO, from Horst, has been assigned the task of building new mushroom weighing lines, which will allow Greenwood Mushroom Farm to reduce product losses by 4% to 6% and expand its production capacity.
Dutch-based firm ARCO will be responsible for the development, engineering and assembly of the entire mushroom weighing line at Greenwood's new facilities. "With its use, Greenwood Mushroom Farm will reduce product losses by 4% to 6% thanks to the accurate and timely identification of excess weight in the package. Assuming an annual production of 4 million kilos, this entails an average saving (5%) of 200,000 kilos of mushrooms. Moreover, this weighing line will also allow the Canadian mushroom giant to achieve a significant improvement in terms of production capacity. A single operator will be able to handle independently up to 100 trays per minute, all with the desired weight," reports ARCO.
The mushroom weighing line meets all Canadian and North American GMF/CSA guidelines. The new line will become operative in spring 2017.
Greenwood Mushroom Farm produces both in the Canadian province of Ontario and in North America. The company markets its mushrooms under the Windmill Farms brand in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Mushrooms are delivered to both retailers and wholesalers in retail packaging and bulk packaging. The company has become one of the largest players in the market and has a wide distribution network in eastern Canada.
