Peruvian garlic exports had a remarkable growth in 2016

In 2016, Peruvian fresh garlic exports had a remarkable growth. According to data from Sunat, in 2016 Peru exported a total of 12,548,609 kilos of this product at a FOB value of US $19,298,131. This marks a positive contrast over the results achieved in 2015, when the country exported 3,713,755 kilos of fresh garlic worth US $5,010,940. 

According to the information presented by Agro Data on its website, there is an important difference in the prices achieved by the product. The garlic is being sold at an average of US $ 0.81 per kilo in markets such as Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador, and at an average of US $2.22 per kilo in the remaining destinations. 

Destinations
The main destination of Peruvian fresh garlic in 2016 was Mexico, which accounted for 37% sales. It was followed by Ecuador (24%), Brazil (19%), United States (9%), Spain (3%), Canada, Chile, and Colombia with 1%, and several other locations with lower quotas which together account for 6%. 

Leading exporters
The leading exporting companies during this period included Coprompex SAC, which placed 4,686,805 kilos of garlic worth US $ 3,753,664. It was followed by Whitelion Foods SAC with 1,119,534 kilos (US $2,793,625), Tovar Albertoletti Jorge Luis with 930,050 kilos (US $744,040), Capas Group SAC with 795,633 kilos ((US $1,628,568), Chiles Andinos SAC with 537,500 kilos (US $1,128,907), and S&M Foods SRL with 355,502 kilos (US $786,761), among others. 

According to the report, the companies that export to neighboring countries achieve trade agreements with a duration that doesn't exceed three years.
