Rain caused 30% drop in pomelo production
"Pinghe is one of the main producing areas of Chinese pomelos and its export season usually begins in August each year and ends at the end of December. This year, due to unusually heavy rains, the quality of Pinghe honey pomelos is barely satisfactory. The production dropped about 30% compared with the same time last year and the production season was delayed by nearly one month." Hunter Zhang said, from XiamenTopsource Trading.
The price of exports decreased
"In addition to the weather conditions in Pinghe, honey pomelos from MeiZhou, Linde, Chengdu and several other regions are all suffering inferior quality. The export price is relatively low. Quality issues not only dampened the purchase desire of consumers. but pulled down overall prices, which hurt exports of pomelo."
"We own a plantation of about 500 acres in Pinghe county. And the honey Pomelos with the EU GAP certification were for export to Europe and middle east countries through the port of Xiamen. Annual export volumes reach about 100 containers. As a growing enterprise, we have obvious advantages in product quality and supply. At present, we have successfully opened the French market, and we are actively looking for partners in other countries in Europe, in order to expand our overseas sales market".
