Apofruit increases kiwi capacity with 8 lane grading Aweta Rollestar

Apofruit Italia is a cooperative company that works with its own processing facilities and producer members from the North to the South of Italy. Apofruit has decided to increase its capacity in kiwi, peaches and nectarines sorting, by buying a new 4 lanes grading Aweta Midstar. The line will be installed in the Apofruit packing house in Forli, beside the existing 6 lanes Calistar line for peaches and nectarines.

Sensor technology will be used to produce a more consistent product quality. The most important feature of the processing line is the Power Vision 3D which the line uses for external defect sorting.

Power Vision 3D
The high-tech camera system combines images taken from different angles to create a full 3D image to detect fruit color, shape and external defects. PowerVision 3D uses high definition digital cameras and LED technology to detect any given parameter of imperfection programmed. The maker claims that this will result in a more accurate and consistent grading standard.

PowerVision 3D is delivered with standard templates. It can also be trained more specifically by means of neural networks and can sort into different quality classes by the type of defect that is detected.

The defect sorting system is installed on a Midstar grader, that besides being utmost delicate with the products, it is equipped with an extremely precise four points weighting cell.

"The possibility to obtain, at the end of the processing line, either packaged products ready for delivery or, alternatively, calibrated products in bins to be stored in cold rooms, or both at a time, depending on sales orders, represents a great advantage for processing scheduling and organization. The same line is easily versatile: it can be switched from kiwi to peach/nectarines sorting at a glance!

From a mere quantitative point of view, the plant can process 9 tons of kiwi (12 tons of peaches or nectarines ), allowing us to broaden our offer to the market," Aweta claimed.
