Recyclable biobased sleeves for fresh produce and herbal plants

Mediane produces CPP, LDPE and Bio-compostable (PLA) Sleeves for the Horti and Agri Market out of clear transparent films, printed in High-Definition Flexo. In February 2017, Mediane will introduce recyclable bio-based plastic sleeves using Braskem’s Green Polyethylene. To Mediane, the trend for green living and environmentally sustainable solutions to everyday problems has become important. With this change, Mediane will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its packaging and the use of fossil resources without compromising on quality and recyclability. The production of I'm Green Polyethylene contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. For every kg of I’m Green Polyethylene used in Mediane’s plastic sleeves more than 4.5 kg of CO2 is saved.

“It is great to see that by combining Braskem’s I’m Green Polyethylene and the latest polyethylene conversion technology, Mediane is able to produce a sustainable, high quality and competitive sleeve solution for the fresh produce market. We are confident Mediane will raise great interest from both European and non-European retailers and herb producers with this innovative solution,” says Marco Jansen, Commercial Director Renewable Chemicals Europe & North America.

“We are very much aware of the fact that we live in a throw-away culture, and that environmental issues have clearly become more of a concern with both producers and consumers. Therefore, the trend for green living and environmentally sustainable solutions to everyday problems has become important,” says Robert van der Laan, Director of Mediane Flexible Packaging Solutions. “Mediane takes these developments as well as its own responsibility, seriously and wishes to contribute to the use of bio-based packaging sleeves and bags. We believe that our future depends on what we do in the present.”

Conical sleeves for the packing of fresh produce, made out of Braskem’s Green Polyethylene, will be introduced by Mediane on the forthcoming Fruit Logistica 17 Show, which will take place on 8, 9, 10 February in Berlin.
