Price of blood oranges rises sharply

Fruit merchants are reporting that, although the Spring Festival is getting closer and intermediary traders have been storing up large amounts of goods, the upwards trend for fruit prices this year will be fairly modest. Only a small number of fruit varieties will be an exception. The stock difference is mainly obvious for citrus fruits, like the blood oranges and the navel oranges of which stocks were increased by more than 40%.

Imported fruits will cause the price difference to be larger, too. This is because relatively highly-priced imports don't get sold as fast as regular fruits, thus a larger number will go to waste. Furthermore, consumers generally buy imported fruits in the holiday period to give to their friends and relations, so they are not as sensitive to prices for imported goods as they are to local produce.
