Gias Fresh&Food: Italy

A platform to solve management problems for fruit and veg businesses

GIAS Fresh&Food is an IT platform for the management of the entire life cycle of fresh products. We talked about it with Valerio Raggi, owner of Agronica - a company based in Cesena which has been developing software for the management of agricultural production and food processing for over twenty years.

"Our platform can manage the entire chain, from production to sales. It is easy to use and can be adapted according to different user needs. In addition, it can be used by both small businesses and large POs."

The life of a product is divided into different phases.

Managing agricultural production means computerising all direct technical management activities as well as other activities connected to primary production during the entire life cycle of a product - crop plan management, logbook management, pesticides and the specification database, the management of company resources and production costs, plus GIS/GPS cartography.

A second phase is dedicated to the collection or management of purchases, sorting, sampling and plant entry.

The third phase, which is very delicate and often underestimated by other platforms, concerns product processing, internal logistics and packaging. "When analysing these phases, companies often manage to improve their efficiency and reduce costs. GIAS enables them to see what is not working to improve productivity."

The last phase concerns accounting, administrative and commercial management, and has been developed especially for businesses in the fruit and vegetable sector.

"Businesses usually contact us because they have systems that only manage one or two phases. Thanks to our experience, we can supply a tool that is easy to use and can be employed in many ways."
