Fingerlime, the new gourmet citrus
Fingerlime, which until recently was almost completely unknown, has started to find a place in the Spanish market. Murcia is the region that has bet on this new fruit in an attempt to differentiate itself and gain ground in the market. According to Antonio Montes, of Hermanos Montes, "this product is mostly demanded in the gourmet world due to its use in haute cuisine and its high price."
The main handicap for fingerlime so far is the price. It can only be found in large wholesale markets and select fruit stores and goes for about 200 €/kg. Given that it is a product that is not yet produced at a national level, the logistics makes it even more expensive. For now, it can be imported from Australia, where it originates, or from the Netherlands (via intermediaries), where it has been very well received.
