"The weather conditions have wrought havoc. Yesterday, it rained all morning, which affected the few flowers that survived the winds we had a couple of weeks ago. In addition, the low temperatures burned the flowers. Today, Monday, we've experienced strong winds since the early morning hours. We still haven't evaluated the damage," stated Alex Martinez, from Deleita Mangoes.
"I can only summarize this year's production of mangoes in Oaxaca as a tragedy and ask for support from the authorities, as many producers depend heavily on the crop. This will affect many sources of employment, as nearly 90% of families in the region directly and indirectly depend on mangoes," he said.
