The price of honey oranges dropped by 40%

China: The price of Yunnan emperor citrus down 15%-20%

"Normally, the listing period of Yunnan emperor citrus and honey oranges begins in October and ends at the Spring Festival. This year, the citrus matured six weeks late and was not ready for sale until early December. The pre-market prices fell by 15%-20% compared to the same period last year, and the pre-sales price of honey oranges fell by about 40% over the same period," says Yan Chen Liu from the Nile Yixiang rural agricultural science and Technology Co. Ltd.

"Because of the weather, the emperor citrus experienced a sharp fall and the sales situation is not very good compared with the previous season. The main planting areas of emperor citrus are Guangdong province, Guangxi province and Yunnan province. This year, Guangdong planting areas suffered a serious cut and a decline in quality, due to the effects of the yellow shoot disease. The citrus from Guangxi regions have a poor appearance and taste light."

The sales of honey oranges was also not positive. In previous years, the market for Chu oranges was quite stable. This year, the Zao orange, new to the market, won popularity with consumers in the early sales period, due to its larger size, juiciness and attractive appearance. Zao oranges listed in the season earlier and longer than Chu oranges, even though Zao oranges taste more light and are more expensive. However, demand is reducing after consumers became aware of their poor quality, which has had an impact on the entire citrus market in Yunnan province.

"The Chinese Spring Festival is approaching and the week before always sees a boost in prices. After the Spring Festival, the whole fruit market has a month of depressed demand. As the fruit quality is not ideal this year, we will actively adjust the sales strategy and sell the fruits registered trademark of "Yiyi Guo" to the second tier cities.

At the same time, we are constantly striving to build our business into an integrated modern farm with planting, sightseeing and picking all together.
