Strand Apples and Favco USA form marketing partnership

Strand Apples, from Cowiche, Washington has joined forces with Favco USA for the marketing of their entire apple and pear crops.

The Favco and Strand families will work closely in the marketing and sales of cartons of their proudly packed Strand, Marlin and Viking labels. For over 20 years Strand Apples has developed the Marlin and Viking labels for shipment of fruit to markets outside the US, particularly Asia, and the Strand brand for Domestic USA markets.

The marketing of Strand Apples and Pears through Favco USA is effective as of January 16, 2017, when the Strand and Favco Family members gathered to celebrate the signing. The immediate focus is on the Domestic USA marketplace and the growing export markets of Asia.

Strand Family history:

Strand Apples was started in 1944 when Ralph Strand and his brother Adolf bought the Big Y packing plant in Cowiche. The two brothers had their own orchards, and with the addition of the warehouse they were able to grow, pack and ship their fruit to the marketplace. In the first year of operation they packed and shipped around 75,000 cartons of apples. Strand Apples was incorporated in 1961, and remains a family business today, run by the second and third generations. Roger Strand is the current president, and his daughter, Jan, serves as vice president.

Strand Apples has grown and today they, in conjunction with other quality growers, grow, pack and ship over 1.5 million cartons of apples and pears annually. Most of the volume of fruit comes from the upper Yakima Valley, some of the highest elevation fruit grown in the State of Washington.
