Altieri Giacomo & Figlio to focus on exports

"We are very interested in the Chinese market, despite the difficulties. Phytosanitary protocols are very rigorous but, when we welcomed a Chinese delegation in November 2015, we realised they really appreciate our products. Now we just need to take the next step," reports Pascal Altieri from Altieri Giacomo & Figlio on the possibility of exporting blood oranges in China.

The company already has experience in exporting citrus fruit overseas. Founder Giacomo Altieri explained they were "the first to export Moro oranges to the US. While it is true that we now have a wider range of varieties, it must be said that the situation was better back then, as there were only few of us and larger quantities of product were available."

"The 1980s were our golden age, thanks to economic and technological developments. We were the first to specialise in grape and orange exports. We conquered the American markets with the first orange, tangerine and lemon containers in New York. I remember a friend of mine calling and saying he found my Moro oranges in America. I didn't know, I had sent a shipment to Verona and it left from there."

Over 40 years, the family managed to turn their passion for citrus fruit cultivation into a well-established business. Today, Altieri covers around 50 hectares, divided into various cultivars of Tarocco, Lempso, early pigmentation and tangerines.

Over time, owners Giacomo Altieri and his son Pascal, managed to interpret the preferences and meet the needs of consumers and diversified their sales channels, also introducing online sales (via the www.fiordarancia.it website).

"One of our main objectives is to focus once again on exports, especially to the US and China," stresses Pascal Altieri (in the photo above).
