France
Slight increase in prices last week in an otherwise very stable market. Processing varieties were negotiated (for limited volumes) between 25,00 and 27,00 €/qt (Bintje, Fontane, Challenger, Innovator) and up to 29,00 €/qt (Markies, Agria). Processing buyers (Belgium and French) also remain interested in fresh varities suitable for chips (careful with the cooking colour which degrade with time and cold temperatures). Export remain too little due to competition with Great-Britain especially for export to southern Europe.

For processing: unwashed, loose, unpackaged, excl. VAT, Seine-Nord, €/qt, min – max (gem) (SNM) :

Stocks at producers (source : UNPT/CNIPT) : At the end of November, net stocks at French producers was estimated at 2.813.000 tons, being +/- 200.000 tons less than last year, and +/- 300.000 tons less than the last 5 years’ average.

Germany
Fresh Market: firm and stable prices. The waxy 19,17 €/qt (=)and the mainly waxy and floury is at arround 17,88 €/qt (=). There is still some supply from Basse Saxe, which disturbs the market in Länder, especially in Rhénanie. In the days and weeks ahead, producers who with varieties for the fresh market stored in bulk will want to sell their produce… It is only then that prices will increase for batches stored in crates and fridges. Prices in the processing market are firm with a slight increase : between 23,50 and 25,50 /qt.

Organic potato market: average prices vary between 64,00 and 70,00 €/qt. Very firm markets. It would appear that the 2016-2017 season will be shorter than usual due to the lack of availibility as a result of lower yields and high defects.

The hâtive contracts (First…) are on the increase by 3 €/qt for the first deliveries in week 28 (10 to 14 July) compared with 2016 summer prices. En second hâtives (Zorba, Innovator…), contracts are on the rise by 1,50 €/qt.

Producer average price on 06/01/2017 : not given.

Mostly stable markets and firm prices accross markets: white varieties with tender flesh in bags for the fresh market are about 20,60 and 26,40 €/qt, and prices for varieties with firm flesh are between 32,00 and 41,00 €/qt. Wholesale prices are between 27,50 and 33,30 €/qt depending on the region and variety (in bags). For chip factories, purchase prices vary between 22,90 and 26,40 €/qt depending on the region and variety, with a firm trend. Trade towards fish & chips shops is based on prices around 28,70 to 34,40 €/qt (50 mm+ bagged), higher prices being for Agria or Markies varieties. Chip factories are experiensing supply problems. Purchases on the continent (France and Belgium) take place for 33 to 34 €/qt.
