Taiwanese mission inspects Honduran melons
A group integrated by the Technical Commission of Taiwan's Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection, met with authorities and technical staff of the National Health and Agricultural Food Safety (Senasa) in order to formalize trade relations and the admissibility of the Honduran melon into Taiwan.
The visit was held within the framework of the visit of the president of the Republic of China Tsai Ing Wen to Honduras.
The goal of the inspection is to verify that the melon production is performed in a place that is free of the Ceratitis capitata fly; a phytosanitary measure established by Senasa, Honduras' National Plant Protection Agency.
The Taiwanese Technical Committee will hold meetings and a working trip to the south of the country. They will visit and verify that the Montelibano and Santa Rosa melon production farms are pest free production sites to allow the entry of Honduran melons (Cucumis melo) into Taiwan.
The inspection will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will also perform a comprehensive evaluation of the Control Program for the detection of Mediterranean fruit flies by monitoring the operation of the control points located at the entrance of the farms.
