Imports transitioning from Mexico to Spain

Lemon importer visits grower in Mexico

“From April through January, we import lemons from the Tamaulipas area in Mexico,” says Raul Millan with Vision Import Group. Raul is in Mexico at the moment, visiting the company’s Mr. Squeeze branded lemon grower. “Visiting the packing shed and fields of Citrosel S.A. de C.V. and grower Miguel Rivera helps us connect and understand his business,” mentioned Millan. “These connections help fuel our passion for produce, which trickles down to our sales team and customers.” This season, approximately 2.3 million cartons of lemons were shipped from Tamaulipas. According to Millan, it was an average season with above-average prices. The company has been marketing its Mr. Squeeze lemon brand since the inception of Vision Import Group.

“During Mexico’s gap in production, we have a highly successful Spanish lemon program,” said Donald Souther with Vision Import Group. “This program supports us in filling customers’ needs year-round.” At the moment, Vision has containers out of Spain on the water and will have a consistent supply for at least 10 to 12 weeks. First arrivals of Spanish lemons into the US are expected the last week of January. Due to heavy rains, the Spanish lemon season is off to a rough start and a few days of dry weather are needed to continue picking. Despite the wet circumstances, volumes out of Spain are expected to be normal this season.
