Spain: Citrus campaign development shaped by weather

"Everything will depend on the quality of the product," states Luis Catalá, manager of the well-known citrus brand La Actual, when asked about the prospects for the end of the current campaign.

The rainstorms recorded last December shaped what was originally going to be an absolutely normal campaign. The first rains undoubtedly affected the quality of the product in the field, preventing it from reaching the desired standards.

Later, the second episode of rains ended up taking an even greater toll on the quality of the Clemenules grown in Valencia, assures Catalá.

What he could already confirm is that "because of the smaller supply due to the damage suffered, prices have remained stable so far."

La Actual is a family business founded two generations ago by Luis Fornés. At the moment, it exports mainly to the Netherlands and Denmark. "We have been exporting to those countries for more than 40 years, and they can appreciate the quality and standards of our fruit," explains the manager of La Actual.

One of its future goals is to enter the French market, which is much more challenging, and which they are choosing because "they can appreciate the quality of a good product, like the one offered by our brand," assures Catalá.
