Sapex expect increase in pomegranate volume

Sapex is planning on beginning its pomegranate harvest in mid-February and they expect a slight increase in total volume.

"The trees are in good shape and at the moment the drought conditions have not had any deleterious effect on fruit set or growth. The general size of the fruit looks a bit smaller than we want, but enough fruit of good size should be available." Sapex explained.

According to the company the farmers placed a lot of emphasis on manipulations to protect the fruit against sunburn and surface marks.

"Many trellis systems were installed and pruning methods adjusted, although the effect thereof will only be visible in a year or two. In the short term many farmers used bags on pomegranates as protection." they said.
