Arabia has requested asparagus from San Luis and the products of this region are already arriving to the Middle East.
Jose Enrique Carrasco Encinas, a horticulturist businessman, said that they had made a working trip to that area when they were out of season, but that they had already started to have talks to export some samples of asparagus.
"Since they are samples, we won't ship very high volumes. We are currently working with the chickpea industry, which is already sending products to them, on the possibility of including Sonora in the producing markets through a promotion with some other farmers in the southern state," he said.
He added that they were also working with blueberry producers that were already shipping two to three containers per week to Dubai by air from Guadalajara.
He said they might include some samples of regional products, while they consolidate sales, and start making shipments directly from San Luis, through the airport in Los Angeles, California.
He said they were working directly with Dubai because it was the gateway to all the Middle-Eastern markets, as it is a distribution and financial center in the area.
"That's part of what we learned when we were there. Dubai is a major port of entry; there are other airports and other ports around or near the Arab countries, but Dubai is undoubtedly the most important one."
San Luis also ships its products to other markets, such as the United States, Canada, Ireland, England, France, and Spain, from where they are distributed to other nations, such as Italy and Switzerland.
The most traded products are scallions, asparagus, and dates, although in smaller quantities.
