Indonesia: Strong earthquake hits northern Sumatra

The Aceh province of Sumatra, Indonesia, has been affected by a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, whose epicentre was ten kilometres north of the city of Reuleut. There were at least five aftershocks and according to the Indonesian army at least 94 people have lost their lives, although rescue teams have come across dozens of serious injuries and it is feared that there are dozens more victims under the rubble.

The quake has mostly hit the municipality of Pidie Jaya. So far only companies from nearby regions reacted, such as Pt. Masindo Mitra Mandiri, and fortunately they report to have experienced no setbacks.

In any case, the panic is huge in the disaster area, as that is also the place that was hit by a massive earthquake, followed by a terrible tsunami, back in 2004, which caused about 180,000 deaths, so those who suffered it back then have understandably panicked.
