"Spanish citrus season hasn't been easy so far"

The Spanish citrus season hasn't been easy so far. "In particular when it concerns the early varieties, such as Clemenruby, Oronules, Mioro, mandarins and Navelinas. This has to do with the persistently warm weather. Due to this there are a lot of small calibres and there is little colour on the good fruit," says William Willems of Central Fruit. "Thankfully the weather in Spain has now cooled down."

Improvement in supply

He indicates that these conditions make it harder to guarantee enough quality and volume for a top brand such as Cibel. "Our quality demands are higher than a regular citrus brand." According to William, the demand at the start was lower. "This is because it was good weather here too. At the moment it's a lot colder and the interest in citrus is rising. The prices were high at the start, but are now fairly normal." He expects an improvement in the supply with the coming Clemenules variety. "Now the weather in Spain is also more favourable, so the quality of the citrus is expected to be great over the coming weeks."

Central Fruit falls under Group A. de Witte and has over 50 years experience in importing and exporting fruit. Central Fruit is located at the heart of Brussels in the European import centre.
