France: Weird potato campaign

It looks like is going to be a weird campaign in France, as volumes are lacking and prices could be quite high.

"We hoped volumes would be good due to the increase in cultivated areas, but the weather affected yields and quality," explains Emmauelle Lorriaux from Top Pom.

"More produce goes to waste and, in addition to the lower volumes, demand from the processing industry and from Spain is higher, so prices have increased."

On the Italian market, potatoes from France are in competition with the domestic and German produce. "We will have to see what happens."

Tom Pom is a French group, gathering potato producers and distributors, established in 2004. Produce comes from five regions (Beauce, Seine-Maritime, Picardie, Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Champagne-Ardenne) and is sold all over Europe.
