Frukar has received various trucks with oranges from their supplier Serene in the last ten days. "The fruit is already good in colour and flavour for this time of the year and is improving with each arrival. The market is very good, we have little competition from other brands, and oranges from other production countries (South Africa/ Chile/ Argentina) are almost gone from the market," says Willem Koole.
"The Serena family has been our supplier of oranges and mandarins for almost 25 years. Their warehouse is in Pobla Ilarga (Valencia), which is still the 'real' orange region in Spain. The Serena family doesn't just check for colour and quality, but also for flavour, which often means we perform best in the tests that various retailers and other buyers make, compared to other brands," says Willem.
"They expect to be able to harvest around 15% more in Spain this year. Large sizes are almost not available due to the drought and heat in Spain in recent months. We expect this to stabilise a little at the start of December and more large sizes to be available then. We can offer any packaging the customer desires," concludes Willem.
