Alberto Velasco, of R. H. Shipping:

"Mexico: "We are a good filter for producers and importers"

For many fresh fruit and vegetable exporters, it can sometimes be difficult to find out which importers are reputable; if they pay on time; if they ensure consistency, or to where they ship their products. Transport companies, such as the Mexican R. H. Shipping, not only help producers reach other markets, but also serve as links, helping create strong and lasting networks of contacts.

R. H. Shipping is a 100% Mexican logistics company which is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this year and transports all kinds of products (from technology and cars to fashion, oversized projects and perishable products) by land, sea and air.

Door to door

The company has eight years of experience in the transport of perishable products. "We offer door to door services without breaking the cold chain and seek to protect the maximum freshness of any perishable product, to maximise its shelf life at the point of sale," affirms Alberto Jorge Velasco, of R. H. Shipping.

The company specialises in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States, both for the export and import from those destinations to Mexico. Velasco explained its emphasis on the European market. "Given our team's many years of experience, we have focused on attending many international fairs, such as Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Fruit Attraction in Madrid or Foodex in Japan, with the goal of becoming more familiar with the specific needs of the market, as well as to strengthen the relationships with our specialist agents on arrival.

Networking
By knowing both the producers and importers, R. H. Shipping becomes a bridge between the two networks, making it possible to set up reliable and durable contacts. "We are a good filter for producers and importers. The company is also very familiar with global demand trends and keeps up with the seasons of all products, so they are able to assess what market or specific window may need a particular product, which is one of its great advantages.

Asia and the Middle East in less than 24 hours
Velasco believes that the transport of any product involves a certain degree of difficulty, as each requires a specific handling. "Our staff is very well trained and experienced, and we always try to meet the unique needs of each type of product," he assures.

The berries from Mexico, for example, are a very delicate product that has recently started being exported to Asia and the Middle East, something that was very difficult to do because of the long transit times in connection with other airports. "Right now, the gap with Asia and the Middle East is much shorter than it used to be, because we always had to go through the United States, but now the freighter flights of Asian and Arab airlines have made it possible to reach the top Asian and Middle Eastern markets, such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Dubai and Singapore, with very competitive transit times," explains Velasco.

North American market
H. R. Shipping has spent many years preparing for the North American market, so the news that the regulation of US imports would change from 2017 has not caught them off guard. "We have seen how the traceability of products in the US has developed, as well as the security at airports and borders; consequently, we have tried to evolve, as well. We have a C-TPAT certification, which ensures a very good position for us in the US. Moreover, we are able to meet the requirements of the US and Canadian markets," concludes the exporter.

Eight offices
R. H. Shipping is a 100% Mexican company, with great local connectivity and which is very familiar with all production areas of Mexico. It has eight offices spread across the country, in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Cancun, Puebla, Monterrey, Queretaro, Leon and Guadalajara, so it it is able to offer the best options for the products to retain their freshness and be shipped from the most convenient airport.
