"The apple season has already started and it will last until July next year. Compared to the same period last year, the price of the apples on the market has dropped by 30%." says Mr. Dong Guihua of Shaanxi Datang Yuguo Agricultural Science and Technology.
Apple market keeps sliding downward
"As everyone knows, the lower purchasing power of the people and the overall expansion of the cultivation area for apples in China, has led to a market situation where supply exceeds demand. In the last few years, the apple market has operated in a state of economic depression. Based on that situation, fruit farmers have low expectations of sales, so they reduce their investments in cultivation, such as the use of chemical fertilisers. In the end, this influences the quality of the apples and the market prices go even lower."
Balanced apple production season
"The production volume of apples has remained basically the same as last year. The growth of the apples is mainly influenced by the weather. Weather phenomena, such as droughts and hailstorms, influence the appearance and the size of the apples. Compared to other years, the weather in the middle of the year was extreme. We only had a period of high temperatures in June and July, so the apples are small this year."
"The cultivation base covers around 333 hectares. The company also owns a modern cold storage facility. The yearly production is about 10,000 tons. 90% of the apples we produce are sold in the traditional way and the other 10% is sold online, under the 'Datang Yuguo' brand, to wholesale markets of f i r s t - t i e r a n d s e c o n d - t i e r cities."
