Brazil may sign contracts worth $1.2m post agri-conference

As a major business rendezvous for the agribusiness international players, the SIAL which was recently hosted in Paris, should lead to the signature of contacts worth 1.2 million dollars in the next 12 months. A success highly welcomed by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) who organized the Brazilian area of close to 3.000 m2.

During 5 days, more than 100 Food & Beverage companies showcased their products and services to the trade visitors, leading to more than 11.200 business meetings.

“50 years ago we were mainly an importing country. The technological and agricultural revolution we’ve experienced enabled us to completely reverse the trend and become the number 3 world exporter in agribusiness. The SIAL is one of the best places to promote our assets,” said Roberto Jaguaribe, President of Apex-Brasil.

One of the key messages Brazil promoted at the SIAL, is its engagement towards a sustainable agribusiness. Indeed, Brazil’s Forest Code is the most restrictive and sophisticated legislation of its type in the world. On top of that, since 1977, production has been multiplied by 5, whereas production surfaces have decreased and Brazil can more than double its production capacity, without impacting the native vegetation.

Recently, OECD/FAO stated in one of its reports that Brazil is ready to become the largest supplier in the world, able to meet the additional demand, mainly from Asia, thanks to agricultural growth in a sustainable way.

Brazilian agribusiness in figures
  • 2nd largest producer of agribusiness products
  • 3rd largest exporter for food product exports, especially orange juice, sugar, coffee and soybean.
  • $88.2 billion exports to 200 markets
