Europe market saturated
China: Pomelo exporters looking for new markets.
"In normal conditions, the pomelo production season starts in September and ends late December. Compared to last year, the season is ten days late. During the growing period in June and July, there was a reasonable amount of rain this year. This resulted in a stable total production volume that is basically the same as last year. Prices on the market are slightly higher than last year," says Helen from Xiamen Anlv Fresh Foods.
"Our main varieties are green pomelo and red pomelo. 45% of the pomelo production is sold in the traditional way to the supermarkets of Beijing, Guangzhou, Guizhou and Hubei. Another 25% is sold online and goes to different places all over China. The last 30% is exported to Canada, the Middle East and Europe."
European market demand almost satisfied
"This year, many inferior pomelos from other production regions were sold to Europe, instead of our high-quality products. In order to increase the sales volumes, the price of these pomelos on the export market was continuously pushed down. It caused a widespread collapse of the export price to the European sector and severely disturbed the export market. Up until now, we have exported 30% less than last year. That is why we hope that we can develop markets in the Middle East and Canada, where there is still room for expansion."
"Our company was founded in 2007. We have an orchard of over 33 hectares and a processing factory of more than 2000 square meters. It is a modernised food company that integrates cultivation, processing, export and sales. I believe that, with the hard work of the company team and the support of the local government, through industry policies, we can make great progress towards foreign markets."
